What is bariatric surgery?
Bariatric surgery is when the digestive tract is changed through surgery to help with weight loss.
Types of bariatric surgery
- Adjustable Gastric Band
- Gastric Bypass
- Gastric Sleeve
Adjustable Gastric Band
A ring is placed around the top of the stomach to create a small pouch.

Gastric Bypass
Also called roux en y gastic bypass; the stomach is stapled to create a small pouch then the small intestine is cut and attached to the small stomach pouch.


Gastric Sleeve
Most of the stomach is removed. It can affect the appetite and metabolism.
